Continuation Betting
One of the most powerful tools in a poker player’s arsenal is nailing down a continuation bet strategy.
A continuation bet is when you raise pre-flop and then follow up with a bet on the flop, regardless of whether you connected with the board. This strategy works because your pre-flop raise indicates strength, and many opponents will fold to a c-bet on the flop if they don't connect with the board.
The key to successful continuation betting is knowing when to bet and when to check and pot control or give up. For example, if the flop comes with cards that are likely to have connected more with your opponent’s range, or if there are multiple players still in the hand, a c-bet might not be the best play.
Another important consideration is your table image and how your opponents perceive you. If you’ve been consistently aggressive, opponents may start to call or raise your c-bets more often, so it’s crucial to mix up your play and keep them guessing.
Mastering the art of the continuation bet can significantly increase your win rate by allowing you to take down pots fast that would otherwise go to a showdown. Remember, the best c-bets are the ones that are calculated and strategic, not automatic.
Apply this strategy in your next session and watch how it transforms your game.
